For or Against Gay Marriage

That comment really does make you look like a wuss.

The not so ideal mentor for my son who just spent the weekend fishing with us has been with his partner for just under 20 years and they are still blissfully happy.

Oh - it's really easy to deal with any potential confusion - here is how I handled it and it worked like a charm...

"Honey - - you know grown up men and women love each other - well sometime two men love each other and sometimes two women love each other."

I taught him that back when he was about 3 or 4 - he now knows several gay people and isn't confused at all.

Dump the fear and use rational thought and discussion - it works GREAT! - - start by having the chat with the guy in the mirror... and GOOD LUCK!

I don't believe its a question of not wanting them here.........If they want to get married they go there........Don't see much of that happening though......Most gay people are not miltant gay activists and just want to live their life in peace and harmony....

You mean, you believe it has nothing to do with gay people getting married to a partner of their choice.

If civil unions are so great, why don't straight people give up their right to marriage for civil unions?

Those people will always be turned off, because gay people will still be gay. The standard of equality is now marriage, so some of those who want to discriminate against gays are all for civil unions, because it is still a way to treat gays as a little less than the majority. It's the final remaining way they can do so, as they see social changes happening to give full equal rights.

Discrimination and bias is the problem that causes the fear. Those who work for equal marriage recognition are fighting to overcome that. We are not interested in codling, cop-outs, or denials that discrimination and prejudice are taking place.

Like I have said having a gay father figure is better then nothing at all but the ideal situation for any child growing up is a straight mother and father and in your heart of hearts you know that is the truth.........

I fear that her favorite meal, cake, has been replaced by crow more than once.

Marie has many nemeses, I just happen to get the biggest kick out of bursting his/her bubbles. :xkill:

you mean from "what I read"

"baron" as a true gentleman defended you and called you a friend.

isn't it ironic that an old German came to your defense? After the year after year daily attacks by you of Germans, in the old DW, and in Der Spiegel International Forum at the present, I find it admirable of him to consider you a friend. He is your friend but you, you are nobody's friend as Archie painfully learnt.

At least you ought to have the decency of confronting 'face to face' those you hate so much.

lol

He has been asked several times and will not answer. He also keeps going back to the things that only straight daRAB can do, despite being given examples to the contrary. It's hard to fathom he is as old as he is - he is so full of illusion and confabulation....

I could if I had the time.

But you yourself can look at the health benefit forms you fill out when you start a new job ... or you can actually talk to the Human Resources person at your company. They will verify what I just told you.

That is true but most Christians do not believe in changing the definition in marriage and that will never change.........

Gays have the same rights I have...They can marry anyone of the opposite sex.....They want special rights....If they get them then why can't someone have 2 or 3 wives? Why can't someone marry their brother or sister? Becasue its illegal and so is gay marriage and it should remain that way.....

Why do heterosexuals need such benefits? Probably because it increases job satisfaction creates incentives and gives security and health, which increase productivity. It also keeps bright, talented employees from going elsewhere. The same will be true for gays.

And where will these lifelong taxpayers who are gay go if they can't get the survivor benefits they need? On a different type of government tax-payer funded program.

Hey, tax cuts trickle down, and create more spending which boosts the economy. This is true for straights as conservatives point out, and it will be true for gays.

I'm glad the "Founding Fathers" knew how to keep the two separate. Why would those who were persecuted into following the king's church seek out a new land, but to practice in their own way and without fearing the king.

Well the latest count is 64 yes 29 no and 3 unsure.............Now we have to ask ourselves what does this poll prove? It proves this forum is dominated by liberals who are out of touch with mainstream America who by a huge majority in the polls are against gay marriage............

No problem.

I disagree with your basic premise. I think that all laws should have some basis in morality and one's religious beliefs are the underpinnings of one's morality. Therefore, it is impossible to divorce the relationship between the two.
Now, philosophical issues aside, I have no problem with civil unions for gays. To me, it is a reasonable compromise. Gays don't really fit the definition of "marriage" but they don't deserve to be financially punished for not meeting that definition. Providing all of the benefits without the "sacrament" is acceptable, IMO. What isn't acceptable, IMO, is the insistance that gays be recognized as married. When you attempt to afront my religion, I respond appropriately in the negative. I think that, if gay unions were presented in such a non-threatening manner, the public would be much more accepting. Americans are typically creatures that beileve in fairness. It is fair, IMO, to treat gays equally from a fiscal standpoint, but it isn't required to do so from a religious one. My religion teaches acceptance of homosexuals, but not promotion of homosexuality.
