For Avatar fans: Where does Avatar rank in your list of top American action toons?

For me, it goes:

1. Bruce Timm's Batman/Superman/Justice League universe
2. Avatar: The Last Airbender
3. Teen Titans
4. Gargoyles
5. Reboot (ok, it's Canadian, but I'll accept that for this thread)

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003/ Fast Forward
2. Justice League/ Unlimited
3. Batman The Animated Series
4. Teen Titans
5. Avatar the Last Airbender

1. W.I.T.C.H.
2. Justice League/Unlimited
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003
4. Beast Wars
5. Spectacular Spider-Man
6. X-Men Evolution
7. Avatar

I might be forgetting a few shows, but that's around my top list until Avatar.

Numero uno.

Second is probably the Hellboy installments. I watched one last week after the Avatar finale, and it was sooooo uber-cool. :D

Hmm, this is kinda tough. Avatar is definately my favorite of the current generation, but it doesn't always command a 'Stop what your doing and watch' reaction as far as reruns go, though the later half of Book 3 will help change my perception. The ones I put above it on my favorites list:

1. Justice League [Unlimited]
2. Batman TAS
3. Spider-Man TAS
t4. X-Men TAS
t4. X-Men Evolution

Right now I'd drop Avatar in the next tier, alongside (in no particular order) Gargoyles, Ninja Turtles 2k3, Beast Wars, & Spectacular Spider-Man, so it could very well be my favorite Action/Adventure toon not based off a Marvel/DC comic.

For American action cartoons... #1 without question.

For all American cartoons... probably top 3.

For all animation... maybe top 5.

1. Avatar: Great storyline, wonderful characters with good development to match and beautiful artwork. This wins hands down.

2. Bruce Timm's BTAS, TNAB, BB, JL and JLU. The first three series captured the dark feeling of Batman and made all of this encounters with villains and criminals intense to watch. As for both of the Justice League series, they were also able to capture a good sense of dark for their action storyline, but I also liked how they gave some attention to different superheroes that don't have their own series and may possibly never will.

3. Gargoyles. I don't remember much of the show, I only saw it when ABC Family had Jetix, but I did love how unique the story was with being dark and continious as well. Of course, there was a great amount of good action there as well.

4. TMNT 2k3: Some good humor and some great animation for the fight scenes gives this series so many great moments and episodes.

5. W.I.T.C.H: Such an enjoyable show. I loved the clear feeling of the animation and I did enjoy the fights with the different magic powers. Too bad I never got to see the rest of the series once Jetix moved to Toon Disney.

Here's mine:anime:
1.Spectalur Spiderman
2.Avatar
3.JLU
4.TMNT
5.Megas XLR
6.Ben 10/Ben 10 Alien Force
7.Gargoyles
8.Transformers Animated
9.Darkwing Duck
10.Danny Phantom

Avatar and Teen Titans are my favorites. They were great shows that I was sorry to see end (although Avatar still has some chance). If I had seen much of the other DC/Marvel material, I'm sure it would be up there with them.

Avatar is at the top for me. Justice League Unlimited, Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, and Spectacular Spider-Man are all fantastic action cartoons too, but Avatar edges them out because it's original. I love comic books, but I give a lot of props to Avatar's creators for creating a whole world, with awesome characters, its own mythologies, its own history and all kinds of details, not just adapting a bunch of characters and stories that have existed for years.

As a show, it'd be 5th place. While it has fights that surpass movies, likable characters, great animation and a decent story, I'd say Bruce Tim's DCAU, Spectacular Spider-Man, Beast Wars and Samurai Jack top it.

Full list:
1. The Spectacular Spider-Man
2. Bruce Tim's DCAU
3. Samurai Jack
4. Beast Wars
5. Avatar
6. Gargoyles
7. Ben 10/Alien Force
8. Teen Titans
9. Danny Phantom
10. Reboot

1. Batman: The Animated Series
2. Justice League (Unlimited)
3. Gargoyles
4. Avatar: The Last Airbender
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2K3)

TBD: The Spectacular Spider-Man, a great series but much too young to crack my Top 5. In time most likely.

honorable mentions: Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, & He-Man (2K2)

As you can see, my Top 3 skew a bit older (mature). As for best originality, then I'd say Avatar followed by Gargoyles. Avatar had the benefit of being mapped out in advance whereas Gargoyles had an unexpected supersized 2nd season order. I decided not to lump the entire DCAU against Avatar because comparing 14 yrs of hundreds of stories of continuit against 61 eps doesn't seem fair. Ergo I judged each series on its own merit. Superman & Batman Beyond would likely be in my top 10 on their own but they're not on par w/ Avatar, Gargoyles, or TMNT 2K3.
