Should Drivers Pay for Global Warming?
By Marty Jerome April 02, 2008 | 11:32:58 AMCategories: Emissions, Policy
Nothing riles Southern Californians like a new tax on their God-given right to drive. Yet motorists in Los Angeles County might be paying an extra 9 cents per gallon at the gas pump -- or an additional $90 on their vehicle registration fees. The purpose? It would help fight global warming.

As some one who lives in Downtown Los Angeles, if the money truly goes to public transit and eases the traffic H*ell we live in, I'm all for it. The tax would be used to fully fund the transit projects that are desparately needed here. I say Bring it. The Gold line they are talking about runs one block away from my residence. I'd be happy to take public transit in L.A if I could give up my car in city driving.
BTW, there is no such thing as a God given right to drive. That's nothing but media, car industry and oil industry propaganda.

if bushco hadn't killed the electric car in Cali, they wouldn't be paying 9 extra cents per gallon.

That won't stop people from driving. They would end up paying it just so they can drive.
I think that they need to have a 'no driving day'
one day of the month where NO ONE DRIVES.
if you have to go some place then you either walk, bike, bus, subway.

No, because people will pay, not matter what the costs, to have their vehicles.

I read that today and almost puked... Look at the very end of the story.. It talks about what a great revenue generator it will be for cash strapped states.

All this is yet another tax to generate funds on the backs of the people with a warm and fuzzy label.

SAY NO TO MORE SOCIAL PROGRAMS and TAXES!

I think it's amazing that people don't see through this stuff. They say," Bush is making his oil buddies rich with these high oil prices, I am voting for Obama."

They don't seem to understand the only thing that will bring down fuel prices is: More refineries and more drilling. Obama and Hillary both will stop either from happening. They both will take the profits from big oil which will slow exploration and production, causing......................................HIGHER HIGHER FUEL PRICES. Stupid people.
