dark or light color? I just came home from college and my mother gave my awesome upstairs bedroom to my little sister and I was given the small room in the basement. Although the additional privacy is nice (I have my own bathroom), I have no windows, the room is a very odd shape, and I have very limited amount of space. I really love dark paints (my upstairs room was painted garnet red), and would love to paint my room an eggplant purple type color. However, I've been told that's not such a good idea considering the size and lack of lighting. Any recommendations for colors (dark or light)?

A light color. Dark colors tend to make a room look smaller, while a lighter color will give the illusion that the room is brighter and bigger than it is.

The actual color is up to you, depending on your decor. My suggestion is to paint the walls a neutral color, then add colors through bright accessories, bedding, etcetera.

Congrats on your nice new room!
