Food Network?

Lazy Comcast techs kept telling us for years it was our television's
fault that we were getting ghosts on our screen. Finally someone who
was interested enough checked carefully and reported that the wiring
from the junction box to our house (original when the house as built in
the early 70s) was VERY substandard unshielded speaker wire. He ran new
cable, did a work order for the company to come out within a week to
bury it, and things have been perfect ever since, even with the addition
of cable wifi.

It took five visits over a period of more than ten years for the problem
to be identified and solved. Actually all it finally took was one tech
with a good work ethic.

The packages and whatnot change all the time. On the cable modem thing,
they seem to let you peak above what you are subscribed for if you
aren't abusing it all the time. On my cable system I subscribe for
3Mbps, but routinely get up to 5Mbps, and the cable systems stats site
notes this difference between the subscribed level and the peaks. The
cable company here offers higher speeds, but I'd have to replace my
cable modem, and the current speeds meet my needs just fine.

Thanks from me, too....if I could perfect a duplicate Hardee's

recipe.

TLC seems to have more and more cooking/reality shows - the D.C.
Cupcakes show, Kitchen Boss and Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, Fabulous
Cakes, etc. It's worth a look if you like those kinds of shows. The
only ones I watch are Cake Boss and Kitchen Boss - and these may be
near the end of this season. There was a preview for Cake Boss last
night, but I would guess next week is the end of the season.

Someone just gave me a whole bunch of cookbooks in PDF. Haven't had
time to look at them yet. Wondering if I can convert them to Mastercook.

When we got the HDTV, I saw the real difference watching football games.
No question about it, football in HD is great. The other things that are
interesting are at the beginning of a scene in a TV show where they zoom
in on a city. Fabulous! I think the food on Food Network looks tastier
on HD. Otherwise, it doesn't make that much difference to me.

No OTA locals where you are? The popular solution seems to be OTA for
local stuff and then various permutations of using say a Roku and say a
Netflix subscription.

Also for weather it is hard to beat all of the online weather sources
where you can get as much info as you want whenever you want.

We bike a lot and it is even a great resource on my smartphone. Say we
are out on a summer day and there is rain coming at some time. I can
just zoom in on the radar for the area and check where the precip
currently is and decide that maybe we can ride for two more hours.

Worth every penny, IMO. Many choices of many genre of music is my choice

I was having problem with my satellite reception about two years ago.
The technician came, checked all the connections, changed the receiver
doodat on the dish. Signal improved but still wasn't great when it was
wet. I assumed that it was a nicked wire somewhere, maybe I had sliced
into it with my weed eater. The technician came out to see it. He
immediately pointed out the branches on a pine tree nearby. While it was
not blocking the signal directly he assured me that when it was wet it
would be causing interference. I was skeptical but lopped off a few
branches and made sure there was nothing within 8 feet. The signal
immediately increased and i no longer have problems when it rains.

The only problem I have had lately was yesteray morning when there as
some wet icy snow sticking to the dish. We knocked the snow out and
instantly had improved reception.

That is why they make the DVR. I FF through the commercials and watch a
show in 40 minutes. Sometimes I turn the 6 o'clock news on, have dinner,
then rewind and watch the news in 15 minutes or less bypassing stories of no
interest. My wife thinks I should have the remote surgically implanted in
my arm.

I like the concept of Unwrapped, but for some reason I can't stand Mark
Summers. I don't know why. There isn't really anything I can find that I
can put my finger on. The other problem is that the show just seems to be
reruns. On the odd occasion I do put it on, it will be one that I already
saw years ago.

I have no interest in Diners Drive Ins and Dives at all.

They can't do that here because Comcast is the alpha provider everyone
else rents their lines through and I've always been with Comcast
anyway, so they have to blame the previous installer. When I had a

You can find similar programs on the recently introduced "cooking
channel". PBS got their funding cut because of people like me who
contacted their Congressman to let them know we aren't interested in
funding a politically biased "public broadcasting" organization. Present
all sides or present none. Take sides and you loose your public funding.

I'm paying about the same to Verizon for FIOS but it includes local

I'm not impressed with FIOS.
