It's 182 here.

I have one of those little boxes on my little wall mounted kitchen TV.
I had to get it when everything went to HD. That TV just gets the
basic cable channels up to 99 or whatever, because I don't need a DVR
box or a bazillion channels in the kitchen.

They do that on purpose to try and stymie the contestants. The new

gum." LOL.

I will be keeping a travel diary on my netbook. I don't think the river
barge trip will be dangerous. The boats are all owned by the Russian
government. but they are leased by US companies. The company we are
sailing with has stripped one of these boats down to the metal hull and
refabricated it so that all the cabins and public areas and probably a
lot of other areas are brand new.

We are not doing any traveling on our own. We purchased transfers from
the river boat company and they take care of all the sightseeing. If
there is anything we want to do that is not covered in their itinerary,
we can get their assistance in finding a guide or a tour.

You would not believe the visa process. That's what's scary!

Cheaper. iPad is at least $500. Ground-level Nook or Kindle
is about $140 (IIRC), although the color Nook was $249.

Smaller. Actually, this may or may not be a plus, depending
on your habits. I wanted something that would be about the
size of a hardback book. The iPad is about twice that.

On the other hand: iPad is a more general-purpose computer.
You can get apps for it that do stuff. I don't know what all,
but someone was talking about using their iPhone as a
grocery list, and I imagine you could use the iPad for that.

There's probably more, but I don't know as much about
the iPad, and I can't think of it right now.

So you would be OK if say we took the same amount we give PBS and cut
another check for Rush Limbagh?

Call me out? I don't think so. Even if PBS has 10 minutes of liberal
content they need to find someone aside from the taxpayers to pay for it.

I hear ya. We're waiting for another generation of Google Internet TV
to come along and then we'll probably get one of those. If I had
someone close enough in the family to tap with as much hands on
computer expertise as you do, I'd be steaming too. As it is, we're
shelling out $150 a month to Comcast (premium digital and the
internet).

Please, if you want to discuss something don't put words in my mouth. I
made no claims that PBS is "left wing propaganda all of the time".

Limbagh certainly does present one point of view all of the time but the
taxpayers aren't picking up the tab for it. My point was specifically to
that. If have political leanings don't ask the taxpayers to pick up your
tab for your programs.

The come-on intro prices may be in consideration if you are trying to
wean yourself off the mind numbing crap and expect to do so before the

basic cable, and also OTA, so eventually they can drop the cable and
already be accustomed to the dozen or so HD OTA channels they receive.

Maybe you would, maybe you wouldn't. First generation tuners had a lot
of trouble with multipath. The current generation do much better. A
decent HD tuner will cost you about 150 bucks, if you get it at Best Buy
and don't like the results you can take it back.

Which brings me to my main question(s). When you buy an e-book

it, in fact, the book you pay for but never really own?
