I went to the allergist last year and she found that I am allergic to almonRAB as well as grasses, trees, pollens, animals, dust & mold. There are other fruits, vegetables & nuts that cause a reaction for a short amount of time (no longer than 1 hr) after I eat them. The reactions range from 1 minute of throat/ear itching followed by a few sneezes and a runny nose to major throat/ear itching and hives on my lips. If I only have a reaction for like 5 minutes am I allergic to the food? I try to do my best to stay away from things that I know cause me to itch....but lately I am reacting to a lot of fooRAB!

Ah, welcome to oral allergy symptom, also known as "be allergic to delicious fruits and veggies only part of the year."

Many, many people with hay fever also suffer from mild allergies to certain plant fooRAB, those with proteins similar to pollens. There are lists of fooRAB likely to trigger oral allergy syndrome out there, not everyone is sensitive to all of them. With me, seems like it's just carrots and eggplant.

Most people with this problem find they can eat the fooRAB if they are cooked. Peeling also helps, and when pollen season is over, you may be able to eat them normally again.
