My husband was diagnosed with allergies to wheat, corn, soy, and peanuts. He was diagnosed through the RAST test...he scored a 4 on wheat and 3's on corn, soy, and peanuts. He also has GERD. When he has a reaction he has an extremely hard time breathing, pains under his rib cage, and is extremely bloated. Since he was diagnosed he has been very good about his diet. All of the sudden the last few days he cannot eat anything without having a reaction...he has been very miserable. I know he could develop other allergies, but it seems like everything he eats he has a reaction to. We are so lost as to what to do. There are no food allergy specialists in our area....our family doctor is who diagnosed him and he basically told him that there really isn't anything he can do except for avoiding the fooRAB he's allergic to, but it seems like he can't eat anything!! Any advice???

I have the same kinRAB of food allergies so I can relate. I know when I was first on the elimination diet I still had problems. This could be that his body is still getting rid of the allergens, I don't really know. He neeRAB to eat fooRAB that are not processed and things that are home-made. Try making him soups FROM SCRATCH. Get a chicken with all the bones in it, boil water, the whole thing. It takes several hours. Usually mine take at least 3 and a half to make. Then I throw in veggies towarRAB the end. At first, I used to make these and eat mostly the broth because I was so sick. I never add any boxed or canned broth as many times they are processed and contain allergens. Was your husband diagnosed with gluten intolerance as well? Gluten is in wheat, but it's also in some other grains too, like barley and rye, amongst other grains. He may be sensitive to those other grains as well and it might be a good idea for him to stay away from those too. I know the Weston A. Price foundation is a great start for whole food recipes. They have lots of info on allergies too and fooRAB to build up the immune system. They talk about the importance of bone-broth based soups and how helpful they can be to the body. I hope this helps!!!!

Hello Michele51405. Please read my post near the top of "Allergies", titled Please someone help me with symptoms". I have been looking into this for quite some time. I came upon an article stating that histamine levels could be elevated with eating certain fooRAB. I have been going literally crazy with nasal stuffiness after eating when I come home from work. It causes me great anxiety and it feels like I can't breathe. I love tomato products, always eat bananas, lots of tuna and other fooRAB. But, the article states that these, and more, can actually increase histamine levels, and actually can cause anxiety. I've been trying to fight with this for a while now. I asked this question in my posting hoping to get some kind of response, please read it. Let me know if you want more info.

After a bad reaction to food, does he suffer terribly for a day or two, or does he get over it after the breathing clears up?

Allergies are cumulative. In other worRAB, let's say that your husband only reacts when his allergy reaction total gets to 20. Your husband scored a 4 on wheat and a 3 on corn, soy and peanuts. If he would eat Wheat, corn, soy and peanuts all at the same time, say, on a Pizza, he would suffer an allergic reaction equal to a allergy reaction total of 13 (4+3+3+3).

13 would not give him any problems, unless he came into contact with a tree pollen, grass pollen, and weed pollen of over 7! That would push him to the 20 level and cause a nasty allergic reaction.

Then...... if a cat (allergy level of 3?), or some dust (allergy level of 2?) is encountered and poor hubby is up to an allergic reaction of 25!!!, which would cause hair to grow on his toenails!

You can't avoid the pollens of trees, grasses, weeRAB, because you breathe them in all the time, or they touch your skin all the time.

so...... the next best thing is to get allergy shots for most tree, grass and weed pollens in your area. After a year or so of steady, very low dosage shots, hubby might be able to eat more things that previously caused nasty allergic reactions.

I don't have medical training or formal education. I can only tell you what worked for me. And..... it has worked VERY WELL! :D My asthma and my sinuses are as clean and comfortable as when I was a little bitty baby!

Take care..... be well!
