Following too closely ticket for accident? Plead no Contest?

I was involved in an accident where I hit the car infront of me..the car infront of me has no damages but my car got damaged, the cop gave me a following too closely ticket...I couldn't stop completely, the guy behind me almost hit me but swerved and the one i hit applied breaks suddenly.

Do you think I should fight it? what happens if I plead no contest?
THe officer said i can apply for a diversion, what is that?
PLEASE help me
