Follow up re 'Good and Evil' is it perception based or absolute?

Some seem to be saying perception depends on how one was raised. I agree the culture one was raised in has a profound effect - but I think that a characteristic of the human animal is conscience (ie we have it irrespective of culture because it is part of our dna).
Perhaps it would be better to say 'right and wrong'. A primitive culture might think it is a virtue to honor their ancestors by killing and cooking a castaway or missionary - to them it isnt evil. But it is an 'absolute' wrong to deprive the stranger of his life. What do others think?
