i am sort of new to fly fishing, i went trout fishing today in our river, pretty good current, but i did not even have a bite when i know they are in there because i see them flashing every now and then, i threw a popper, and my other best fly that i cant remember the name of, so if there are any suggestions i would love any advice anyone could give thank you!

There are many different types of flies - dry, wet, and nymphs - and many different patterns that they represent. Most people use dry flies and they work well especially when a hatch is happening. Try to identify the flies that are hatching and duplicate them with your fly. My experience is that most of the trout food are nymphs and I fish them most of the time trying to duplicate the nymphs in the river. I spend a bit of time looking under rocks and determine what the food source is and duplicate with my nymphs or tie a new fly.
