Fly by wire Grips

Just ordered some new grips for my 08 Street Glide.

Just wondering if anyone has done this change? Is it a pain, what does it involve? Done it before on other bikes but not with this fly by wire technology.

The only thing I screwed up at first was this...

When installing the right grip make sure you push in lightly to make sure the "cogged" end of the grip is making contact with the TBW gear on the bar end. I didn't at first and when I got everything tightened down it wouldn't actuate the throttle...

On the second try I pushed...too hard...and then the TBW acted as if I had a stuck throttle cable (wouldn't spring back).

Third shot I put light pressure on the grip while tightening everything down and got it right. Heven't had a minutes trouble out of it yet.

Really it is an easy install, I can find a way to screw up even the easiest of installs, after all I am a Marine

Looking forward to seeing what I can mess up when I do the oil cooler and oil temp gauge this week.

Thanks for the Post been curious about this because love custom grips but been a little leery of messing with the TBW because works like a charm like it is .. and I have the Midas touch in reverse instead of gold everything I touch turns to chit ...

No problem just take your time. I have some Battistini grips on my Street Glide. Make sure that you dont push to hard getting teeth to mesh. Besides that its a piece of cake....

that's only because we Marines are so anal about the little things! Semper fi

BTW, the fly by wire grips are nothing to fear and I have changed out three so far with no problems at all. But most importantly and as is often said on this forum, "the first item you should purchase for your bike is the Service Manual, the second is the parts manaual."

easy 10 minute job, just make sure u put a shim inbetween the brake lever and the bracket ot it will screw up the brake switch..i know because when i took it to the dealer for something, i was watching them and he didnt do it, and the brake light didnt work. i had to show him what to do to fix it

For those who do not know you can reuse the throttle sleeve on the original grip by just cutting off the rubber. They you can install any grip you want. I used metric ISO grips before they came out with a set to fit TBW on my 08UC.
