Flower (?) On Military Uniform in Forrest Gump?

BUNNY

As many times as I've watched this movie I've never noticed before that there seems to be a emblem of some sort on Forrest's as well as several other's left sleeve on their military uniforms during the Vietnam scene.

I've taken a shot of it here : http://s753.photobucket.com/albums/xx179/MusicDoesntLie/GumpMilitaryFlower.jpg

Can anyone please shed some light on what it is or what it may mean? I tried poking around on google but was unsuccessful.. I found something where daisies represent "innocence" and with it being half shaded black.. I figured it may mean something about being jaded, but I don't know. Who's to say it's even a daisy? Maybe it's not even a flower. I know next to nothing concerning the military so please excuse me if it's blatantly obvious and I'm just not getting it.

I'd also be interested in any opinions on what it may be/mean.. Even if you're not 100% sure.

Thank you!
