Florida gun law question?

Just had a little run-in with a cop, I was open carrying my gun in my own yard, last time I checked, it was allowed? He couldn't prove otherwise, but asked me not to.. Can someone clarify this for me? The gun was on my side, in a paddle holster, (Secured). As long as I don't leave my property I should be ok, shouldn't I?

I would think so... 2nd amendment right. Plus, it's not concealed so he and everyone else can view it too... to know that you're keeping your community safe
