It's not really a rip off though, is it? If it had been it would probably have been more interesting because The Lady Vanishes actually made sense and had quite a different plot outside of the "somebody's missing on a plane/train" idea.

Some people have said that you shouldn't think too much about a film like this, but it's hard to ignore all of the problems with it. What films like Flightplan prove is that it's exceptionally easy to create a sense of mystery in the first half of a film which can keep the audience engaged, but if you don't have an adequate explanation for it then 90% of the audience will leave the cinema feeling cheated. The whole appeal of the film is based on you finding out what happened to the little girl and when the explanation is as absurd and nonsensical as the one offered it's natural that the film falls flat on its face.

It's still a remake of it though, even the film makers of Flightplan said so themselves.

I know it's all about money, but is there not some point at which a movie is vetted before being bankrolled? Surely there should be some sort of mechanism to protect us movie-goers/watchers from having to sit through cr@p movies? Anyone could see this was going to be a heap of rubbish....
So if I write a screenplay about, say, a killer robot driving instructor who goes back in time for some reason, get a well-known lead and a catchy title, it'll be filmed and released?
Excuse me while I fire up my Word processor....
