Flexpay Data

Ok, I just recently (2-4 days) got a Curve 8320. Works great, except that Opera Mini, IRC, and most all other 3rd party apps can not find a data connection. APN is set correctly.

Also it is not the phone itself, had a store manager pop a demo SIM card into my phone and everything worked perfect and connected. Put mine back in and nothing, so he replaced the SIM card, still nothing.

Obviously T-Mo refuses to actually help and take a look at my data profile settings to see if something is or is not turned on correctly. If I could find another T-Mo user on FlexPay that has these apps working, the could compare the profiles. So if anyone can help there my PIN is 2448A0B5.
Also after some more research found someone that debranded a Nokia 5300 and now his Opera Mini, Google Maps, etc, work. Google Maps already works for me, so does Gmail and Facebook apps. Does anyone know how I can debrand my curve? And if it doesn't fix the problem, could I put it back to normal so I can get my refund. Again PIN me 2448A0B5 if you can help.

Thanks

Bruce

By debrand I assume you mean unlock (so you can use it with another gsm carrier) then yes you can. There are sites that do it for less that $50, or if you are in good standing with tmo, they might unlock it for you...

Hope that answers one of you questions

No, unlocking I am not worried about, debranding by removing all the T-Mo crap that could be blocking the 3rd party data connections.

Have seen comments about removing the vendor.xml file to debrand it, but I am not sure if that will work and if I could put it back to normal if it doesn't work so I can get my refund.

Just double checking, you say your apn is set correctly, and by this you mean to wap.voicestream.com correct?

Yes, wap.voicestream.com, like I said it worked perfect with a demo SIM card, but not mine, so they said it could be due to a flexpay account, but others have said that shouldn't matter. So I am kinda lost at this point. I will be returning the phone this afternoon if I am unable to get it working.

Ummm.....oddly enough, I done another T-Mo OS re-install, set the APN, hard reset, and now opera mini works, irc works, I am testing more apps now to be 100% sure, but somehow it is working now.....

I ran into a similar issue after installing Yahoo's new voice search. It took 5 reboots before the software was recognized as trying to connect to the internet. What was explained to me by both yahoo and RIM at the CTIA was that since it was using T-Mobile's APN instead of connecting directly to RIM's servers having the wi-fi on would cause issues with it connecting. I was able to verify this after I got it working by connecting to my home network and attempting to use the software. It took disconnecting from my wi-fi, turning it off, and rebooting the phone to get the software to reconnect to the internet. Apparently the APN setup is not designed to connect to wi-fi.

My wi-fi had been off the entire time. So I'm not really sure sadly. I wish I knew exactly what "fixed" it so that others could fix theirs as well, because I know a lot of people are having problems with Opera Mini thru T-Mo

Be careful taking the TMO software off of the Curve. The UMA (WiFi Calling) is dependent on TMO's software, so if you change any of that, you will lose all of the settings and ability to use the UMA, now, or in the future

I too have flexpay and have had a problem with opera and bb weather! In my case it seems that if I tried accessing either app without coverage,ie no signal it would return a null connection error. I usually completely exit out of the app and wait a while and when I have coverage I access them again and usually voila! They work! However my coverage is decent yet quite sporadic half the time!!!~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
