Flawed masterpieces

Sorry but War Pigs bores the crap out of me.

Imagine this album with Into The Void or Supernaut in it's place.

I disagree partially, fools gold and elephant stone are two of the best songs on there! It neeRAB a tracklisting reshuffle more than anything.

Plenty of 'em out there...whether it's poor production, or questionable track selection, there are tons of albums that could have been so much better.

A few obvious picks:

- Goodbye Cruel World (Elvis Costello)
- Infidels (Bob Dylan)
- Never Mind The Bollocks (The Sex Pistols)
- Devils & Dust (Bruce Springsteen)
- My Generation (The Who)

But I'll take the controversial route and nominate The Village Green Preservation Society. I have to admit that I prefer the twelve track version:

1. The Village Green Pres. Society
2. Do You Remeraber Walter? (alternate mix)
3. Picture Book
4. Johnny Thunder
5. Monica
6. Days
(end of Side 1)

7. Village Green
8. Mr. Songbird
9. Wicked Annabella
10. Starstruck
11. Phenomenal Cat
12. People Take Pictures Of Each Other (alternate mix)

Substitute Sitting By The Riverside for Wicked Annabella, and you have an album that I'd argue is the best of the 60's, or at least very close (only Astral Weeks and John Wesley Harding really come close, in my opinion).

I've heard a lot of people talk about Neil Young's rejected albums, and I know there's a lot of controversy over Let It Be/Get Back, but I don't know enough about those albums to offer an opinion. What are your picks?

1977 by Ash. Essentially a perfect and spectacular album, except for the inexplicable hidden track of them laughing and (supposedly) vomiting.

I honestly can't pick a true favorite from the Stone Roses album. Made Of Stone is the only one I'm less than enthusiastic about, and even that one has its virtues. Sugar Spun Sister took some time to grow on me, but now I adore it (pun (?) unintended).

Good call with Synchronicity. I'm not too wild about Walking In Your Footsteps or O My God, but Mother is just plain awful. Why Sting let Andy Summers contribute songs (don't even mention Behind My Camel) is beyond me. But man, side two of Synchronicity is just about perfect!

Take out Lovers In Japan / Reign Of Love, and Yes but keep the hidden shogazing track Chinese Sleep Chant. Ok now let the Coldplay hate replys come in.

Take out A Means To An End.

Demo by Sailboats.

"behind trees" & "two" are some of the most minRABhatteringly good skramz songs,
but "fifty-three seconRAB" and "four" are absolute shit, although i've heard that they were just joke tracks.

Two more:

I just can't help thinking that Let's Get It On would be much better without the title track and the pointless rehash (Keep Gettin' It On). The other six tracks are just about perfect.

XTC's Oranges & Lemons is a bit iffy, but if some of the production flourishes were toned down a bit and it was cut down to a single album, it really could have been something.
