Flashing N80 with Cingular Firmware

Hey guys. I am getting ready to buy an unlocked phone, a Nokia N80. What is involved in making sure I can get on the internet, send picture messages, etc. I have read I need to get the phone "flexed" with Cingulars firmware? Is this something that can be done easily? Is it based on the phone you get or just generic for any phone? I want to be 100% sure this will work before I spedn $500 on this phone. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Chris

If you're gonna spend that much money on an unlocked and unbranded phone, why would you want to put any branding on it? That's pretty much taking away the point of spending all that money.

You can put the settings for Cingular on it just fine, but you don't have to brand it!

remember, there are always brand whores out there..I for one am not one. good luck flashing and bricking your n80. Keep in mind, some things will not work after you flash it... I'm kidding haha.

Ok, well I would rather not have it branded, I just wanto make sure I can still send mms messages, get on the internet, etc. How do I do this without ruining anything or branding the phone?

The N80 and other new Nokia phones take WAP/MMS settings right off the cingular sim so there is no need for a "flex." Enjoy!

Will it only take the settings from the newer sims? I still have a 32k sim and can not upgrade it because I used to work for an agent and had an unlimited minutes account for free. They (luckily) have forgotten to turn it off and I can not take the chance of changing anything on the account because they will most likely shut it off. Plus I dont know the password on the account.

"Flex" is the term for Motorola phones and not applicable to Nokia. Your objective DOESN'T require a provider-specific provider (and Cingular's decided not to launch N80 anyway). All the configuration settings of N80 can be set by using the Settings Wizard (under Menu > Tools). I always use it as I travel quite a bit. Really handy.

These phones are designed to be unlocked and fully usable on any GSM network on earth. That's why you pay what you do for one (as opposed to a subsidized crippled one from your carrier). These days all the settings are on the SIM card, just change it and you will be doing everything you need to do.

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile MDA: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

go to nokiausa support, and get Cingular setting for N70 or N90

there is no cingular firmware, or if there is, i gurantee you won't be able to find it and it'l be an older firmware then whats on the phone. phone works fine on cingular with latest firmware, wap/mms/everything is fine, WCDMA works too if u got the prototype ;]

i have an N80 and am on cingular in the central florida area. my sim is not brand new.

i popped it in, everything works. txt, voice. everything. no other settings needed just as boston errol said.

most of S60 devices after 6630 can pull the setting right from the SIM, as long as it's available
my 6680 and E50 can draw T-Mobile setting right from my SIM, everything
