Bit of a curiosity, this one. Daniel Craig plays Joe Scott, a drugged-up, washed-up film star who's forced to face his past mistakes by the death of a childhood friend. The problem is that Craig's scenes are the least enjoyable in the film. Not really his fault, because the flashback which dominates the middle section of the film is far more watchable than Craig's bookending scenes; it's beautifully filmed and impressively acted by Harry Eden as "young Joe" and Olivia Williams and Helen McCrory as his mother and aunt.
So don't go expecting a great performance from Daniel Craig. It's unusual enough to make it worth seeing and there is one scene, with Eden and Felicity Jones singing along to Roxy Music, that's worth the price of a ticket on its own.
