Flashbacks of a Fool

Bit of a curiosity, this one. Daniel Craig plays Joe Scott, a drugged-up, washed-up film star who's forced to face his past mistakes by the death of a childhood friend. The problem is that Craig's scenes are the least enjoyable in the film. Not really his fault, because the flashback which dominates the middle section of the film is far more watchable than Craig's bookending scenes; it's beautifully filmed and impressively acted by Harry Eden as "young Joe" and Olivia Williams and Helen McCrory as his mother and aunt.

So don't go expecting a great performance from Daniel Craig. It's unusual enough to make it worth seeing and there is one scene, with Eden and Felicity Jones singing along to Roxy Music, that's worth the price of a ticket on its own.

really enjoyed this, a nice little film with a solid cast, not a bad performance among them.

harry eden is great as young joe and the whole thing is beautifully shot.

nice to see DC supporting a small production which otherwise would have reached a far smaller audience.

7/10

Whilst I thought some of the scenes were a bit pointless, I did enjoy this film a lot more than reviews made me believe I would (that'll teach me to read them!) I thought Daniel Craig was very good though I agree with the OP that his sections were weaker than the Flashback section. I wish there had been a bit more 'resolution' at the end - it seemed a bit flat - but I thought all the performances were wonderful and I was very moved by it. It is well shot and arty.

i saw this - full of cliches with people sayting out loud what any intelligent film would allow us realise ourselves (eg CD saying to eve 'i dont like seeing myself through your eyes'...like, durr...)

the thing that struck me about this (apart from the fact it was clearly filmed in south africa and not the UK) was the fact that all the clothes looked like brsnd new costumes and not lived-in clothes
