In my personal opinion, that will be for MONEY. 3 months of training, 1 night of fight, 8 rounds of boxing, 400++ thrown punches, 200++ connected punches, and one word of surrender = millions of dollars..why not..nobody can guess the number of lottery to hit million of dollars in 3 motnhs time.
Mayweather was once called the pound for pound king..so why fight the new one. It will be the same if Mayweather reached 70 years of age and another pound for pound king will arise..will he get out of retirement just to prove he can still punch.
There is only one Mayweather, Dela Hoya, Pacquiao and others that was crowned pound for pound king during their prime. After Pacquiao definitely another man from the roaster of champions will be pound for pound king. Juan Manuel Lopez could be the next king.
Maybe they mis-understood the meaning of pound for pound..maybe they thought it was the currency used in United Kingdom.
Should this event will push through, the contract must state that no man can surrender his fight, no refree would stop the beating not unless the bell rang, no corner is allowed to throw in white towel during the beating, no boxers will be counted out not unless he really can not stand up after the knock out.
Maybe then, Mayweather will think twice. Did he really wanted to fight because of the glory? He retired gracefully, so why bother to retire again beaten by the man of the hour.
Why bother to line up old boxers to new named king. There a lot of boxers who can compete at 147. Is Dela Hoya the last contender at 147? If so, and retirees are the only boxers left, maybe Pacquiao should play billiards instead.
