flash recycle time for canon rebel.?

i take four or five pics then the lcd says busy for a few seconds then i can take another pic then if too soon it will do the same thing again. is there an external pack to prevent this? or anything else i dont know about? plus whats a good external flash for all around lighting (not directional) and is it preferred over directional?
 
Yes. I have a Rebel XS and it does exactly the same thing. While the flash is working to re-cycle the camera won't take a flash photo. Actually you and I are pretty lucky because most cameras recycle every time you shoot. These Rebel models apparently hold flash power in reserve only recycling it every few shots.

I don't use external flash or I'd answer you. Check with a local retailer. They can be pretty cheap to very expensive.
