Flash operating system / remove t-Mobile restrictions

Hi all,

I have a new 8700 on T-Mobile and am not happy with the restrictions and extra software included by default on the phone.

It does things like not allow me to change my homepage and force me to start browsing on a tmobile screen offering to sell me ringtones (which I can make myself).

I did something similar with my XDA Mini recently and had to reset the device and install additional apps from the extended ROM.

Does the BB work in the same way? Is there a way to remove these settings and apps and restore the device to its factory settings?

Which type of stuff don't you like? If you click menu while browsing, you can go to browser config, and change the homepage...
 
I don't like the t-mobile browser or all the tzone things which I have now hidden, but would ideally like to just get shot of all the t-mobile rubbish.

I have checked with a friend who has the same device on o2 and I do not have the same menus as him in the browser.

Where would you suggest I go to change the homepage setting?
 
williamlc21 - that option is the one that has been disabled by T-Mobile
flash24 - I have installed Opera Mini but I am unable to connect. It says that I do not have a working network connection.

Any other ideas?

I think all this has been locked by T-Mobile. Is it possible to reset the BB to a factory state?

For the opera mini to work just go to your option menu the to your advance option menu the go to your TCP menu and on the first field type in wap.voicestream.com that should help fix your opera mini issue.
 
~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~Two questions to start off. 1. Do you have a data plan? 2. Are you using the Blackberry HTML browser or the T-Zones WAP browser(sounds like this one)? The T-Zones browser's icons is a white cursive stylized "t" on a pink background and displays "T-Zones" when the cursor is on it and the Blackberry browser's icon is a globe and when scrolled over just displays "Browser" at the top of the home screen". The t-Zones browser is a WAP browser designed for cell phones and is very limited and designed primarily for downloading ringtones, wallpaper, etc and is only able to browse a limited type of web pages designed for mobile phones and does not have the functions of an HTML browser. The Blackberry browser is an HTML browser which is much more full-featured and similar to a traditional PC browser and is really the browser designed to be used on the BB for browsing the net, and will allow you to browse many more(almost all) webpages. You must have a data plan($19.99/month) to use a "real" browser and not just the "cell phone" browser($5.99/month). With the BB browser you can change the homepage as described above in a post. If you do not have a data plan I would highly recommend getting one. It gives your device a plethora of capabilities and will allow you to use your BB to its full potential, and it really a neccessity when using a BB. Without it, all you have is a glorified cell phone. With it you get access to the real browser, push e-mail(instantly forwarded to your device) and PIN messages(BB only message service similar to text messages, but instantaneous and completely free), and the ability to download additonal programs for you device and all the other features associated with each one of these. Hope this helps, and feel free to post or private message me for more help. You could also call T-Mobile Customer Care and speak to a sales or Blackberry rep(they actually have specific CSRs trained to help with BB issues) and I am sure they would be happy to assist you with the whole data plan thing.
 
The guy that started this thread is using the T-zones WAP browser and not the blackberry internet HTML browser, which is the problem. Things like these should probably be researched a little more before putting threads about T_mobile's resctrictions...........

1. yes I do have a data plan?
2. I am stuck using the T-Zones browser. I do not even have the option for the Blackberry browser. All places to change browser defaults only give me the option for t-zones

I do have push e-mail and PIN messages and the ability to download additonal programs (like opera mini).

I have been on the phone to t-mobile most of today, but they say as it is a third party app they do not support it

I have a colleague on o2 with a bb and he can change his, however on mine the option is simply not there

I am now unable to remove the opera browser from the device.

Am i getting a bum deal from tmo uk (i assume you guys are mainly us?)

untjoker, Welcome to rabroad.

Carriers do impose some restrictions. Some, especially those in the UK, don't always provide anything else but the WAP Browser, which is why I asked about his Carrier. Everyone automatically assumed he was on TMO US.

Paul, I don't know what the APN/TCP Settings for TMO UK are, but if you can find them in this Download/View File, Carrier TCP Settings, you might be able to get Opera to work.
