I have a flash drive (DANE-ELEC USB key) that I bought not too long ago, maybe a few months. I never used to use it THAT much, until now. Over the past couple days, I've had to use it very frequently, moving files from computer to computer. Now, all of the sudden it isn't working. The LED light isn't lighting up anymore, and it isn't picked up on my Mac or Dell. I can only assume that I've completely worn it out, and now it's dead.

However, I had a lot of files on the drive that I would like to recover. I've heard of sending it to a data recovery company, or downloading software. I haven't tried anything yet, but I'm wondering if any of those things work? Or if you have any other suggestions?

Thank you so much!

1. Check the plug on the drive for damage, dirt or dust
2. Clean out the USB ports on the computers using a can of CO2
3. Open it and inspect the drive thoroughly for damage (Not recommended)
4. get a new one

To prevent this from happening again:
1. Unplug it when not in use otherwise it will overheat
2. Keep the USB plug CLEAN
