hmm,
to unlock and backup firmware correctly.
just use no name cheap serial cable from China.
you can find it @ Ebay.
then, use Siemens Service Tool Box or Freia.
I used Siemens Serive Tool Box to unlock it.
and backup for Freia.
Freia is very simple to use; however, Service Tool Box is better...
personally... I think.... but there are more functions with Freia....
I guess nobody uses other than unlocking functions...
and the settings... ex) com port...and stuff...
just go,,,everything default.... do not change any FIFO or whatever... I guess the program is designed work on DEFAULT SETTINGS perfectly. Also, anybody have a problem with making flashes... just format the OS and re-install windows 98 second edition... by this way, I solve the problem, Of course I used different hard drive to it... anyhow,,,, good lucks and happie new year.....................^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

as I have read, it should be possible to "upgrade" the A56 to a C56.

Has someone done this already?

Is there anything to obey? Are the settings the same than at a A55 (could I use Freia)?

I did not find the C56 flashfiles anywhere. Any idea, where I could get them?

I am looking for the C56 flash files too. I tried the A56 to C55 and everything works except it is the wrong band.

Today i change a C56 to C55 successfully!

1.) Flash C56 to C55
2.) Change PA
3.) Change diplexer

It work great with 900MHz network
 
To Schlips Hi! I have A56 svn12,and C56 svn09, but cant read flash from this phones with FREIA v.8. What soft You use for A,C56? May I read,and send file for You.

I recently got a A56 from Cingular. In my case it was no problem at all to read out the flash. I choose the A55 (I think, this fits). Some things, I figured out, should be obeyed:
1. Check the settings of the port. As I have heard, the best is (the classic) COM1 port, not USB.
2. Look for the port's settings: I think they are found at start / settings / system. For READING the flash, the FIFO should be activated. For WRITING the flash, they better stay deactivated.
3. Maybe it is better to reduce the connection speed to 57600 at ALLSIEMENS / FREIA.

It would be beautiful, if it would work out, that you could read the flash of the C56. Then I could upgrade the A55.
