fix a dead flash drive? wont even show up...?

one day it works, now it doesnt. vista wont even see its there, no lights, nothing.
im thinking maybe i could crack it open and fix it some how but idk any help?

try it in a different pc. if it is physically damaged then you my need to do some soldering if you can.i have done this b4 with a spare usb cable and put it in place of the usb jack then hot glued it into a gutted mac mouse.
 
plug it into linux. i once had my whole life on a flash drive, and one day panicked when i realised it wouldnt work any more..turns out there was a bit of silver chewing gum wrapper stuck in the end and it was bridging the connectors...anyway, does it show up in device manager?..if it does highlight it and right click. then select to update device driver. then itll probably ask to search the internet for driver..click on that. if all fails its probably come to the end of its life.

you get to device manager by right clicking computer from the start menu and selecting "manage" then "device manager".
