Fish tank massacre, what went wrong!?! Can I save this Molly?

I set up a 30gal tank,cycled it under the directions on one of my close friends who's a very experienced fish keeper. He gave me some Zebra fish(I forgot the name but that's how they looked and they were smaller,tropical fish). I returned them to him,checked the levels in my tank and all was well so I went to buy the fish. I got 4 Guppies(2males///2females) and 4 Mollies (2males///2females). I didn't get them at the same time though for fear of throwing off the levels too much as my friend said could happen if I dropped in a whole bunch of fish(is it true this can happen?). I got the Guppies first and four days later got the Mollies. I put the Mollies in last night and this morning when I got up to feed them,all were alive and well and seemed to be getting along to me. I even watched last night JIC they started to fight,they didn't. Well I went out today and was out all day (10am to 10:30pm) and when I got home all but one male Guppy and one Molly is dead. All of the dead fish have injuries like they were fighting. The only surviving Molly has a chunk of it's tail fin taken out and I don't know if it's going to make it :(.

What can I do to try and save it? Should I separate the Guppy and the Molly? And why do you think they fought? I was told they were supposed to get along well.

I kept the Danios for 8wks. The tank has plenty of fake plants and other places to hide(castles,bridges,etc). I did put dechlorinator in the water.
