Fish Tank Air Pump Help?

I bought an air pump from the store and am confused as to how to set it up. It comes with an air pump, air stone, and check valve as well as plastic tubing. I'm pretty sure you attach the plastic tubing to the air pump but where do the check valve and air stone go???

Also....
when using products to remove ammonia and chlorine from your tank, is it okay to pour it right into the water even with the fish in the tank? What happens if they drink the fluid??
