I have a fully cycled ten gallon tank, and am now looking for the right fish for it. It has dark red and black gravel on a dark background, so for the sake of being attractive I'm leaning towards white and light blue fish.

I don't want dwarf gouramis or mollies, as I already have some in a different tank. The fish need to be hardy enough to deal with some changes in temperature and possibly missing a day or two of feeding here or there, because weather here is nuts and I can't always drive over to them.

I'm considering a betta. What are your favorite betta combinations, or do you reccomend some different ones?

Well, I currently have a white fantail goldfish and a red betta in together. It works. Make sure you get a non-aggressive goldfish, though. They can be quite mean.
Though, you could also go with guppies and a betta. Guppies are very colorful and docile and would work well with a betta. Not to mention, they don't get very big. You could get about three or (maybe) four and the tank won't be overcrowded. If you go with guppies, though, be sure to get a heater.

You say you already have gourami, so no betta's, they would fight. They're cousins and simply to closely related to survive together : ( Get the gourami adopted and you could try it with the mollies, it really depends on the individual Betta's personality. It's a good way to go, just NO gourami, and NO tetra or barbs, (they are fin nippers and may attack the slow moving betta) and NO male guppies as the tail more often than not prompts them to attack.
I don't know what you have numbers wise, so suggestions are hard as I don't know how stocked you are.
But maybe a killifish? They can come in a wide range of beautiful colors.
Or maybe a couple male guppies, they can range from every color and pattern imaginable.
Maybe a blue platy? That would definitlly get along with the mollies.
Best of Luck!

i have a 10 gallon fish tank too! anyways, i only have common goldfish in mine. they are easy and fun to take care of. the maximum fish to put in a 10 gal is 3-4 fish. IF YOU WANT TO GET A BETA DO NOT PUT IT WITH NON DEFENSIVE FISH! betas are viscous and olfish are friendly so the beta will eat them. so your best bet is goldfish.
hope that helps =]

if you only want 1 fish a betta is the way to go but if you want more than 1 why not try a school of neon's you could add a black light and have an awesome tank
