Fish Oil side effects??

Has anyone here ever experienced any unusual side effects from fish oil?

I'm including Lovaza (prescription fish oil) in this as well.

When taking OTC (Jarrow's brand) fish oil for a while, I noticed an increase of visual abnormalities when waking up in the morning. Some people on the net have said these 1-2 minute episodes could be auras. Thinking it could be the impurities in OTC fish oil (it's widely known that there are impurities in many brands of fish oil), I decided to switch to the better regulated Lovaza. However, the frequency of visual oddities in the morning increased, yet again.

I don't understand why this is happening, as I have no known fish allergies. Omega 3 is very helpful for me as I have ADD and other cognitive issues, and now because of these auras, I can't take it. Flaxseed oil yields very little EPA/DHA, which are the most active forms of Omega 3...

I would eat fish if I could abide the taste of it

This is not an answer to this question but I was wondering if you have been to a doctor? I know that you don't have health insurance-neither do I. I go the the local Community Health Center-see if they have any where you are and get yourself registered. They typically use a sliding fee scale.

I have been using fish oil pills for quite some time now...I did not have any side effects till now...but before my doctor prescribed me the pills he told me that there might be side effects...so it would be better if you consult your doctor..

Hm. I take fish oil daily with no issues, but auras could be indicative of an atypical migraine. You might well be allergic to something in your diet, triggering a migraine. Since you say that it's only when you eat fish, you may be one of the rare few that is actually allergic to fish, or (as you suggested) to a toxin in the fish oil, or one of the other ingredients (I read that soybean oil is part of Lovaza, so if you're allergic to soybeans, that might be it...).

I used to eat fish until I was about 10 years old, then stopped completely. I never had any food allergy issues, not to shrimp, tuna, crabmeat, or any of the others I used to have while still a youngun. I don't think it's an allergic issue.

I have soy foods almost daily with no problem AFAIK, so I don't think it's that either.
