I have a 10 gallon tank. Can you take care of a goldfish or any type of fish with out a filter? What is a beginner fish?
what about anglefish?
Betta care?

you need a filter for a goldfish. if you dont want a filter then the only other option is to add a crap load of plants to the tank. you would also need a good light that is on for 10-12 hours a day. i am talking about an aquarium light not the light from your room. if you did that you could get a betta or something but not a goldfish. for more info look up diana walstad on google

You need a filter in order to keep any fish...especially goldfish.
Beginner fish are danios, tetras, corydoras, gourmais and such as.

If all you have to work with is a ten gallon I would stay away from goldfish. They grow too large and produce too much waste.

ALL fish require filtration.

Please use this site to help you stock a ten gallon aquarium- http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/10_Gallon

yes you can...............however you would be required to change 75% of the water weekly. Ok, i have too add this little note here, I raise Goldfish and Betta's. Goldfish, as small as 1 to 2 inches will only grow 1/2 inch every 6 months so you'd have lots of time before being required to buy a larger tank, we have allot of kids here and kids are not Pro's. They assume "A Lot". Exaggerate allot. In reality now, its nice if we can all afford a 55 gallon, however most people want companionship, not the largest tank someone else can afford, everyone is not made of money and we all know it, however kids think everyone is "rich". That is why alot of parents have troubles with their children.
Professionally speaking.

About the only fish that can have a long life without a filter is a beta fish. 1/3 water change every other week. You may wish to get your water checked before you get the fish. Most large pet stores will do this for free.

There are no fish that cannot be without a filter, especially goldfish.

Goldfish are not a good fish for a 10 gallon tank. They get large and are very messy. An adult goldfish requires 20-30 gallons of water to live in.

Good beginner fish are guppies, tetras, danios, barbs, etc.

Be sure to CYCLE the tank. This requires patience. If you're not the kind of person that uses patience very well, then fish may not be the right pet for you.

Every fish besides goldfish requires a heater, as well.

Certainly not a goldfish, not in an unfiltered tank of any size. Frankly, if you don't want plenty of headaches and money lost, do it rigth from the beginning. No fish can live in dirty water, which it will be minutes after you feed them if there is no filter. Oh, they might linger a few months, but that's about it.

All fish need filters, goldfish are very large waste producers usually needing double filtration in an average aquarium, Not all tetras are beginner fish, only neons or glowlights, livebearing fish are also easy to keep in an aquarium. If you have a ten gallon then you can keep any fish that don't out grow your aquarium, or don't over stock it. No one is a beginner in fish keeping. Most people here just cycle their aquarium do research on their fish and make sure you can take care of it properly with all of its needs.
Good Luck!
