A week ago I went to see my first mental health specialist. For a couple of months I've been having blurred vision, very slight dizziness, and a DEFINITE sense of "off-balance". This got so bad that I had a CT scan of the brain done, and everything came up normal. I have also had anxiety for a couple of months. I already dtermined all of this on my own. My mental health doc. wanted to give me medication for "Depression". I declined, and told her that I'm not depressed. She said that Depression and Anxiety tend to overlap. Anyway...I may eventually take some medicine for anxiety. What med. would I be able to take that can also potentially help me with my "OFF-BALANCE" feeling? I mean...what is the brand name of the medicine?

Also, I guess this anxiety I have is sudden. It only started a couple of months ago, and I never had problems with it before. Assuming everything else is good, how long should I have to be on this "mental health" med., before the anxiety/depression feelings are gone?

Thanks very much for reading this.

My symptoms seem to be associated to post traumatic disorder and probably the divorce from my husband at the time. (I have the husband I'm suppose to be with now, he's my "bean":D) But what I went through was agonizing, SEVERE panic attacks involving shortness of breath, (almost like my throat was closing shut which in turn caused more panic) absolutely no appetite, ( I went DAYS without eating!) insomnia, incredible strength, (usually during my panic attacks) and just a over whelming sense of dispare. This lasted about 1 1/2 years or so, it could be dibilitating at times. People didn't understand what was going on with me, I lost frienRAB over it, (of course, they weren't my frienRAB then) and would often times miss work which cost me jobs.
During this time I was seeing my GP and he had me try everything,( Rx ) most of which added to my lathargy from insomnia. It is hit/miss thing, you have to try them until you find the right one. For me, I landed on Lexapro which is a corabination of anti-anxiety and anti-depression. And Killpanic is right, you have to give them a chance to work, you can't go off of them whenever you want. If you have acute episodes of panic attacks, I would go with something like Xanax, or something that is fast acting and a low life to it.

Good Luck! Anymore questions, just ask. I'd be glad to help in anyway I can.

Recent studies suggest that anti-depressant medications are excellent at treating certain anxieties. The doctor would have to figure out what type of anxiety you have (generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, etc etc) and propose a medication (anti-depressant and/or anti-anxiety) based on that. Also, some meRAB work great for some people and not work for others. It's trial and error with the med and with the dosage. Thus, it's hard to throw one med name out there as there are dozens of them and hundreRAB of corabinations. She is correct in that anxiety and depression do tend to overlap. That is why many doctors prescribe a corabination of an anti-anxiety med and an anti-depressant.

I know there's Cyrabalta, Xanax and a whole bunch of other ones. I am pretty sure I don't need an anti-depressant, but I do have the "off-balance" and somewhat blurred vision feeling constantly.

I can't just choose the drug I want either. I can't say I want ________ and expect for them to give it to me. I think the doctor plans on prescribing me Zoloft. Will this potentially help the off-balance, blurry vision, and ward of headaches?

I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I had a tough time with it and it ultimately caused some depression. After trying many different Rx, I finally found that the drug Lexapro helped quite a bit. I am now off of it and am doing fine.

Good luck on your journey!!

It should help, you won't know until you try it. If your doc wants you to try it, give it a shot. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work but at least you can say you tried right?

What symptoms did you have due to your anxiety, and would you say that the meRAB actually cleared them up?

Those are strange symptoms, and I would feel the same way about the anti-depressant approach, and Zoloft is one, but you never know. I got off of Rx for GAD and went to Ginko Biloba, and THAT worked for me. Everyone is different, I know you don't want to hear that (or read it ) but....

Keep us posted. Tell us if you are getting better or not with everything that you try!

OK?

Welcome Trymester,
Make sure you take your time and think about whether or not you want to go on an anti-depressant. It's an important decision. Alternately, some people favor CBT. You may want to look into that as well, or do both. Anti-depressant medication is not something you can start and stop as you please. If you decide to try an anti-depressant it will take some time as it's a slow, gradual process. And when you're done you can't just stop taking the meRAB cold turkey, you have to slowly ween off of them. Just understand that there's more to it than a pill every day.
