First time iphone user

I'm upgrading from my cell phone to an smart phone. Am currently with TMobile and heard they have come out with the HTC HD2. I do have an older AT&T iphone which a friend gave me which I could unlock and use. Any comments on which would be more user friendly? I hear the HD2 is big and may be a bit bulky but has a large screen.
 
Even if it's a first gen iPhone, it'll be more user friendly and capable than the HD2. However, the HD2 has the giant screen going for it if you do a lot of media viewing.
 
The real problem is that the HD2 is at a sort of dead end. While the very first iPhone won't support iPhone 4.0 software, the HD2 is worse in that it's on a platform with relatively few apps AND on its way out. It's a lot of money to spend on a new phone that will become obsolete. If you had to buy a new phone, a Nexus One from google.com/phone is a better option.
