I'm hoping somebody can help me - I am going crazy with discomfort.

About 8 days ago, my scalp started itching intensely. I had my husband check for lice, dandruff, or anything like that, but there was nothing. Soon, there was a rash at the back of my neck, and the next day, I woke up with a very swollen lower lip. It went away after 4-6 hours, but the itchiness had spread to my neck, chest and upper arms. No sign of hives, just some small red marks that only appeared when it was actively itching. On Sat of last week, I woke up to a very swollen upper lip, and what looked like a large bump on my forehead. My face was slightly swollen as well. I went to an emergency clinic, and the doctor told me it was an allergy of some kind, put me on prednisone and zantac, and suggested I continue taking benadryl.

I stopped having any swelling of any kind. However, the itchiness and red rash continue. Now it it is mostly on my scalp, arms, chest, and thighs. I am sleeping very poorly because I wake up scratching all the time.

Nothing had changed in my routine when all this started. No new food, new detergents or new skin care products. As a matter of fact, I hardly use any perfume, and my skin lotion is usually either pure coconut oil or olive oil. No new shampoo either. We eat extremely healthy, with no preservatives of any kind. I am not congested, not sneezing or anything like that. Have no fever and no aches or pain, although all this medication is hurting my stomach. The only medication I take on a daily basis is metoprolol tartrate for high BP. I've been taking this same medication for almost 4 years now.

I don't know what to do. I'm still on the prednisone, and I'm hoping to see my regular doctor on Monday. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? I'd appreciate ANY ideas.

Thanks in advance

acha14: I guess you'll have to wait to see your doctor on Mon., but have them check for lyme disease. You could have gotten bitten by something and not know it. Have some allergy tests done too and if that doesn't work then go see a dermatologist.

You have the "Rain Barrel effect". The volume of the water is larger than the capacity of the barrel and the water is overflowing.
In other worRAB at any given time your body can process and or hold a certain amount of toxicity, poisons and waste products. From acidic diet, chemical laden fooRAB and drinks, to stress and drugs and who knows what else.
Have a good look into your past and you will find all the clues
you are looking for. You body is not crazy, it is actually extremely intelligent.
Over 80% of physical manifestations in your body are emotion and trauma driven.
My suggestion is:
1.For fast relief do basic EFT (tapping) that you can learn in a few minutes -if you are not already familiar with it. < edited >
2. Seek an "allergy elimination" practitioner in your area that works with energy medicine such as NAET or "Allergy Antidotes" or BEAM therapy. ( I use the "Allergy Antidotes" with great success and it is a very broad based approach. And of course fast, natural and non invasive!)
3. Energy Psycho-spiritual work is probably the best way to clear your emotions, stress and any traumas from your past that are "stuck" somewhere in your body, and that our conscious mind often does even not know about.

The first things that come to mind are that maybe a product you've used before has a new formula. My mother became allergic to her BP medicine when her local pharmacy switched manufacturers. (so she was reacting to an inactive ingredient.)

Or, it could be you've developed an allergy to something that wasn't bothering you before. Since this is starting on your head, I suspect shampoo.

It could even be an allergy to something like dust. I have frequent allergic rashes, and I often get an itchy head and hives on my face during the spring pollen season, sometimes without other allergy symptoms such as runny nose.

Is the Benadryl working? It might help to add another antihistamine, such as zyrtec.
