First Smartphone

Never had a smartphone/pda and looking to jump into one. Main thing I will be needing the phone for is email with file reading(dont really need to be able to manipulate files), texting, multimedia. I currently have US Cellular and love the "call me" minutes but not against changing. Verizon is not in my area, fyi.

I've looked into the curve, pearl, dash, blackjack, and moto q. What would you all suggest?

What carriers are good for coverage in your area? You've left a lot open. You have an OS preference? Formfactor preference? QWERTY keyboard yes/no preference?

Budget is under $250 but willing to get 1-2 year contract. No preference to OS, wifi, gps. Would like a camera and full QWERTY keyboard. Cingular coverage is probably the broadest, then sprint, t mobile, alltel, us cellular. Verizon is in Tulsa but not OKC(where I am at).

Seriously considering the dash and t mobile but hear they are fixing to get the new curve or 8320. Just now seen the treos though and the iphones are intriguing but availability and price are keeping me away. Any other new smartphones coming out that i should wait? Im just worried about going out and spending $$$$ on a smartphone and a more badass one comes out in a month.

Ok, this helps a lot. If Cingular has the best coverage, and you don't mind not having WiFi, the Samsung Blackjack is a nice option. it's Cingular's equivalent of the Dash, which is also a good option if T-Mobile's coverage is good enough. The Blackjack is 3G, the Dash has WiFi.

I don't think either one is going anywhere for a while. Anything new coming out will probably be above $250 initially, but I heard that an HTC phone similar to the Cingular 2125 but with a side-slide keyboard might come out soon.
