First post and possible future S2R 1000 owner!

Hi and thanks for having me! I currently ride and enjoy an '07 Triumph Bonneville but am looking for a sport bike to accompany it.....considered the Monster S2R1000 and will be test riding one later today, already looked at it in person. It seemed like the best match for me, not all hunched over and offers the torque of a twin......I also looked at the Triumph Speed Triple, liked the feel of it but seemed to have a higher RPM powerband.......so i felt I should do further research.

For those who own the Duc in question or are familiar, how do you like it overall? As far as fun to ride, mechanically a good bike, comfort, power, etc. Also how does it feel on interstate at 70-75 MPH? This may sound funny but do people ever put any kind of storage bag on a bike like that? I mean just big enough to carry a packed lunch and drink.....don't need much. Thanks in advance, and soon I will know if I will be part of the Ducati family as well
 
i have a s2r800, which is very similar outside of the clutch. mine is modded enough to beat a stock 1k, so let's call it even.

it's a great bike for around town. i'm not sure i would call it a "sportbike", more of a sport standard. definitely a step up from your triumph though, as it relates to being more "sporty". anyway, it rides super smooth at 70-75, although i need to tuck to avoid wind buffeting at 70+. if you lose the front fairing, you will NOT be happy riding it that fast for very long. power is fun and manageable. only place you will likely want to store things is on your back... so you'll need to find a good backpack (there are many). some folks use tank bags and funky tail bags.... while i am sure they work... that's not really my thing so i haven't tried it.

if you want to make it more sporty, you'll definitely need to invest in rearsets and clip-ons at a minimum. of course you are getting a ducati, so to not get exhaust would be a travesty. i have a full arrow ti kit on mine (with pc3 and air filters) and it sounds AWESOME.

anyway, from a bonneville it would be a nice logical upgrade unless you really want to step up to a true sport bike, in which case i would look for something like a 748/749/848 (which is what i am currently doing).

btw, you can easily find either a s2r800 or 1k used with lots of mods for a great deal. personally, i wish i had gotten a s4rs. if possible, upgraded suspension would be really nice as when i am turning hard and hit little bumps (e.g. lane reflectors) it gets squirrely.
