first person accounts from cold war era?

just looking for any personal stories from the cold war era. feelings during the space race, watching the berlin wall fall, etc. i would especially like to hear from anyone who served in germany, guarding the gap. this is all just to satisfy my own curiosity about this era, being born in the late 80's i missed this influential part of our history and would like to learn what it was like. any personal stories or recommendations of books with good, true, first person accounts are greatly appreciated. thanks y'all :)
