How did the First Nations help the Europeans survive in the North American wilderness?

First Nations is a Canadian term of ethnicity which refers to the aboriginal peoples located in what is now Canada, and their descendants who are neither Inuit nor Métis. Lest the descriptive First Nations imply the only First Peoples.

Although I could find no direct reference to the First Nations helping Europeans, I am sure that they did help in much the same way as those living in the northeastern US. I used the Plymouth colony's struggle for survival as an example.

Plymouth faced many difficulties during its first winter, the most notable being the risk of starvation and the lack of suitable shelter. It survived due to Native American aid from Tisquantum (better known as Squanto) and Samoset. Squanto was particularly of assistance to the settlers, teaching them to catch eel and grow corn in order to prevent the colonists from starving to death.
