First motorcycle Help!!?

Ive been shopping around for my first bike for the spring/summer, and here are my thoughts.(I am 6ft 2 and about 180ish).First of all for my first bike should i stay away from the 600s? and instead settle with the Ninja 250? if not ive heard no from many people and yes to stay away from others... i am not crazed speed hungry driver thats gonna go crazy (i respect the bike and its power). For the 600s ive been looking at its between the ninja 650r, honda cbr 600rr, and the new yamaha fz6r. any other recommendations or insight anyone has is greatly appreciated.
 
how about a ninja 500?
small enough, but big enough still...

without going to sporty and out of control...
 
good question i think the same way you do my dad is a harley guy tho for road bike but off road its yamaha for him i have 450 se atv and wantted to get a street bike and i was saying the same things you are i was going to get a 250 and then thought id get a 600 and when i got ready to get it my dad told me that i would get used to the 600 and be able to push it and never respect it any more so he talked me into a R1 and i love it so i would keep talking to people and try to ride others bikes to help you out u can stay 45mph and have fun but its nice to have the balls to the power when u want it btw im 6'4 200lbs
 
I'm also 6ft2 and 190, have been since I was 21 when I bought my first two bikes. They were both were 1980 Honda CB400s. Great little bike, simple as anything to maintain (two cylinder twin) and will live longer than you. I have since migrated towards bigger, faster bikes but the 77-87 Honda Twins are in my esteem an excellent starting bike and readily available. The little 400-450s hold highway speed nicely, easy to drive, great way to start out. Have fun!
 
If you are going to be doing a lot of riding up to and including lots of highway speeds go with at least one of the 600's. If you are riding with others on larger bikes you will regret not getting the larger CC's. The 250s are nice for around town, and commuting but you will run one to death at highway speeds, and most definately if you live in an area that has hills or mountains. You are a pretty good size fella too so the extra CC's will come in handy. Just because you have the extra cc's doesnt mean you have to be a speed demon but the power is there if you need it.
 
atleast a 600, just respect it you will get used to it quickly, im 5'11 and i have an 1100, but i am experienced,
