Imagi Animation Studios had some problems financially shortly after the release of "Astro Boy" last year. So whoever was looking forward to a "Gatchaman" movie got it clear out of their head.

That was all until this new teaser trailer appeared out of nowhere to blow people away. Okay, I didn't literally fly out of my seat, but I have to say that although I'm not a huge fan of the series the trailer got me interested.

"Gatchaman" is an animated science fiction/action film that centers on five young superheroes who are apart of the International Science Organization, set to stop a group of technologically advanced villains (Galactor) that are trying to take control of the Earth's natural resources. Imagi's "Gatchaman" is expected to be released in theaters sometime in 2011. Take a look at the teaser and tell us what you think of it.

What rabroad reported was that "Its parent company said that it would continue to develop movie ideas and outsource the animation work to China." It also said that the status of the Gatchaman project was unknown at the time. Since then, as far as I know word never came that it was entirely abandoned.

I hope this is still coming out. I love Gatchaman. I have the complete DVD set of the original series. I know this won't be the same, but I liked what Imagi did with Astroboy and I expect this to be just as entertaining.

They made Dr. Nambu a black guy with an afro though.

Eh we'll see. Last year, a chunk of the movie was focused group on Warner Bros. studio lot, so some of the movie was done. This was right before Astro Boy came out.

I wonder where it actually is in production and if they can actually release this movie in 2011, and if it won't look like it's cut and pasted together with a ton of tape and glue.

Here's hoping that this fares better than 'Astro Boy'. I could imagine the reaction that some people would get from this trailer.

'Hey, I remember them, It's those five kids in bird costumes I use to watch on TV when I was a kid, yet they keep getting their names changed, and Disney made them into guinea pigs. I wonder if that little robot, and his dog will be in that movie.'

The problem is that they licensed and decided to make a Gatchaman movie when virtually no one in the US has watched Gatchaman except if you watched the ADV releases from a few years ago. Not to mention the fanbase is even more segmented when you have BOTP, G-Force, et al.

Also not to mention the fact that Gatchaman itself is a pretty messed up show with messed up borderline bi-polar characters for the heroes (they ARE teenagers). So this movie would have to be pretty severely toned down.
