First film you saw at the cinema?

thanks gerry, that sorts that then, i was 7, and went with my big sister, and my mom took me for my eight birthday to see staying alive! what was she thinking!! i had a great dougal from magic roundabout cake though!!:D
 
My mum took my older brother and I to a matinee showing of Bambi when I was about 5 and my brother cried when Bambi's mum died.

Made fun of him for literally years after :)
 
My mother took me to the movies when I was about 6 or 7 - that would be 1962.

It is an exciting Tanzanian set adventure film called "Hatari" [click] and starred John Wayne. I remember it fondly, and it seems to have had some critical acclaim.

I also believe it had a great tune, which has been played on radio many times, which was played over a chase involving some young elephants.

And later on, after we moved to Penn in Wolverhampton, Saturday mornings was a well spent silver 6d (2.5p) at Penn Cinema.

I think I'm going to get a copy of Hatari on DVD for Mother's day. I'm sure she'll love seeing it again.
 
The first film I remember going to see was Flash Gordon in 81ish I guess. Also the first film that I left before the end of as it scared the life out of me and we left after about half an hour. I watch it now and can't quite understand what I was scared of, the quality of acting or special effects perhaps?
 
Bambi with my Mummy when I was a little brat. I hated every minute of it. Have never taken to Disney animations, even as a child. The first "grown up" feature I saw was Star Wars on it's release in 77 on a school outing.
 
I can remember seeing The Jungle Book with me dad, probably 1967 or 68.

I started going to see films on a saturday afternoon with me schoolmates around 1975, and I remember seeing Towering Inferno, Earthquake, Jaws ( my all time favourite movie - I saw it at least a dozen times ! ! ), Star Wars, Grease ( which I wasn't too keen on, but saw about 6 times - I was a skateboarder, and the B movie on the bill was a documentary showing skaters in London. After Watching the B movie I hung around and watched the main feature, to get me moneys worth . . . ), Man About The House, Digby The Biggest Dog In The World etc. etc. . . . .
 
Double features. Didn't all cinemas do that?

I remember the biggest coup ever was catching the man changing the posters at the end of the week and getting a double film poster.

Best one I had was The Giant Spider Invasion and Carquake.
