First date restaurant is closed would you tell date in advance?

I am going to have my first date with this guy next Friday, and I just googled the restaurant. Apparently the bar/restaurant has been closed recently. Should I let my date know about picking another venue? Or pretend to not know about this info to save him some pride then to find out on the date?
I feel terrible if I dont tell him in advance. actually the reason why i looked up the restaurant was more i wanted to suss out the dress code and the crowd that goes there to make sure i am not under / over dressed and to ascertain.... hm...
 
Tell him you called the place for directions in case there were any transportation problems before the date. That's how you found out they were closed.

If he is picking you up for the date, then you can look ahead for other restaurants nearby. When you arrive at the closed restaurant, say "Oh no. They're closed. You know there's a place right down the street I've been wanting to try. It's called (Restaurant X). I think we would have a great time there. What do you think?"
