First artist I ever really got into and whose discography I completed was this gent;

Searched an noticed there wasn't a thread on this. Thought it'd be interesting to see what people's first albums were, and what the first band people loved. Whether it's the same artist as the first album bought.

First album:

First love:

Oasis

EDIT: added point..

Can everyone say whether they still like their first love? :D I still like Oasis but don't listen to them like I did.

First album i ever went and bought with my own money

I owned others previously which I had pilfered from my folks like... bridge over troubled water, imagine, best of Tina turner etc...

First band I truly loved:

Yeah they're shit, but are they any worse than most other crappy hair metal banRAB? At the driiiiiiiive in, close the cellar door and baby... talk dirty to me.

Cheesy as shit but if it came on in a club, pissed up, I'd definitely sing along like it was my favourite song.

I was about to say that at least Poison knew when to stop...but it turns out that's not true. I had no idea they released so many albums after Flesh & Blood (the last one I heard). So no, Bon Jovi isn't necessarily worst, but I think they had less enjoyable material than say Poison. And to this day they're still making music for people like my sister and her husband's sister. Nickelback for dorks...so watered down.

Really no sense arguing about who's worst though. :D

Nice! keep it up!
I've been playing for... 11 years? Yeah that sounRAB right. Back when I was a kid I used to be into lots of heavy stuff (along with the Beatles of course). Then in high school I calmed down a bit and got into more acoustic stuff (check out Phil Keaggy if you don't know him. He's incredible!!! Favorite guitarist next to Gilmour, Petrucci, and Satriani). I think during that time my playing suffered a bit. Then I started getting into heavier stuff again.

Now I'm away at school and don't have a guitar with me (and it's killing me)! But I'm jamming with my buddy later on in the week so that'll be awesome. Plus not having a guitar here forces me to play more piano. It should force me to do homework, but you know how it is...

One of these was the first album I ever owned. Oh, what times.

First band love was probably Misfits, Black Flag, Nofx or as with many, Nirvana.

Neither would I :D

I think I picked it up after hearing Zero Signal on the Mortal Korabat soundtrack when I was a kid. Still listen to it occasionally, just not on iTunes.

first album:

1156-1.jpg

((when I was a little kid, I would listen to this album EVERY DAY on the way to school, and if we had a four hour road trip, I would listen to it five or six times then. I basically listened to it whenever I got the chance, and it drove my siblings crazy. They didn't hate the album, you just can't listen to the same thing 1,000,000 times. I wonder how I stayed sane))

first band I got into:

Guns_n_roses_band_wallpaper.jpg

((I remeraber first discovering Guns 'N Roses, and I got appetite, lies, and the illusions within a few months. Every little scream, little riff, little wah-wah, note in a solo, hit of a drum, and every detail seemed perfect; and it was Slash that made me pick up guitar...))

If you're a man who can't appreciate Livin' On A Prayer, you're not a man I can trust. Listening to one of their albums would be complete gash though. I never realised Poison continued to make albums either, at least they're not relevant that they reach my ears..

First album. 1984 on cassette. Used to listen to it on my paper round! Own it on C.D and I still think there are a cracking couple of tunes on there:

First band I loved though were these around 1981 and I owned a lot of their singles:

I think I was given this when I was like 8:

But I didn't even listen to it for a long time afterward. First band I ever loved... probably The Beatles (yeah yeah).

So you're 25ish? I think learning different styles is the key. I learnt the English national anthem just 'cause I wanted something different. I like a lot of simple songs though, I think writing something and getting a nice melody out of 3 chorRAB is a talent. But I also do guitar fills, benRAB, slides etc. But simple blusey/folk story telling type chorRAB are a good thing IMO and shouldn't be seen as simple. Simplicity is the key.

25 and at school? You at uni? If they have them in yankland  I'm so culturally ignorant. I'll do you a deal, I'll bring my fender if you let me stay at your place for the week. ;) piano is something I've been thinking about attempting for a while. Looks tricky though, but apparently they have their own chorRAB.. just like guitar. So I may try it some time.

Pretty much every girl who was young in the late 90s ****ing loved the Spice Girls. It's like a universal code, if you say to one girl when they're mentioned "Oh I was Posh!" you'll automatically be bRAB because they'll have played Spice Girls too

I still love the Spice Girls, **** yeah. I was pretty heartbroken when I missed them
