Fireworks!!!!!!!!!!

It is more like legislated common sense. Common sense should dictate that detonating fireworks within the close confines of a city is a bad idea. It is simply a stupid thing to do. In a perfect world, people would realise that it is a stupid thing to do so they would not do it. We do not live in a perfect world. We live in a world full of idiots who lack even the most basic common sense. I think this largely comes from being pampered from the cradel to the grave because when I have been places where people are not thus pampered, I have noticed that they often seem to have more common sense than your average now yorker. Unfortunatly, it requires ver little intellignece to survive, or even thrive, in the US today. Instead of ignorant people dying, they reproduce and create even more idiots.

Idiots and pyrotechnics is not a good combinaiton. I could care les whether the idiot blows him (or her) self up. I just don't think that having them burn down their neiborghs house is a good thing. I would even go so far as to say that people who are not bright enough to use fireworks without damaging or killing themselves deserve waht they get, and the world is a better place without them.

There is a hue difference between allowing people to put themselves at risk thoguh their irresponsible actions (and I am all for that) and allowing them to put the guy next door at risk.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for holding idiots accountable for blowing up buildings, but I don't think merely possessing fireworks while passing near buildings should be a crime.

I don't know if I believe that but this is a discussion for a different forum.

Biggest problem is shake shingle roofs. Shake shingle roofs are roofs covered in cedar shakes. They are INCREDIBLY flammable, especially after they have been dried for a few years. When ,my dad was fire chief, he did a little demonstration where he make some mock roofs (just shake shingles on plywood). He then shot them with a roman candle, a rocket, and set a fountain off near one. Every single time they caught on fire. Shake shingles are actually easire to ignite with fireworks than gasoline. No joke.

The second biggest problem is masonite siding. MAsonite siding is compressed cardboard. Does not take a genius to figure that one out.

I guess it is a good thing we have laws that are state to state.

I still don't understand why some chose M-80s to be legal.

a normal firework can have at most 50mg of explosive I believe (or something like that) and a M-80 has about 3g or explosive. They were designed for the military and is normally considered as a "1/4" stick of dynamite (eventhough this is untrue). However, your normal explosion from firecrackers is enough to take off a finger if you hold it in your fist...an M-80 would kill you.

Becasue M-80s primarily hurt the idiot using them. they do not start fires, they do not injure innocent bystanders. Laws which are deisgned to protect people from their own stupidity have never been very effective.

Sorry, let me clarify. I don't think the posession of fireworks should be banned (I have a half a cas eof dynamite in the refrigerator in my shop....out here in the sticks we use it to clear stumps and blast fence post holes), just using them in utterly stupid places, like your back yard when you are surrounded by houses with shake shingle roofs.

Free roman candle distribution could be a positive urban renewal effort for some city and suburban neighborhooRAB I've seen.

I grew up in Texas where fireworks on the 4th of July and at Xmas were big events. Let people have what they want. If they hurt themselves or someone else, maybe they'll learn a lesson. No, that's too logical, they've become dumber than posts and shed all traces of personal responsibility in favor of blindly following politicians. Give them each a case of dynamite and magnesium signal flares.

My son buys a substance called Tannerite that when mixed will explode with great energy when struck with a high powered bullet. Great way to blow a 6" fence post in two. There is never any doubt if you hit the target or not.

I think there should be a rule based on where you detonate them. As long as it's x feet from the nearest house or other object it's okay to set them off.

In MD we have laws against any type of fireworks. No person is allowed to use sparklers or anything. Of course people do it anyway, and no one really cares. Most likely the law is just there so that if someone does it irresponsibly and hurts someone, they can charge them with a crime other than stupidity. Come to think of it, stupidity should be a crime, and we should use the death penalty. (not so) Natural selection I say, let the idiots die out.

I had a friend that blew off the front half of his middle finger with what was called a "Baby Giant" firecracker. He used to get us thrown out of restaurants by sticking the stub up his nose.

But usually when you pass a law to keep people from doing one stupid thing, they just find othr, more inventive, and even dumber ways to hurt themselves. You cannot idiot proof the world. You just keep ending up with a higher grade of idiot.
