Fireworks!!!!!!!!!!

Erm, and people actually pay good money to live inside a deathtrap? Strange.
What's also strange is that buiding houses like this is condoned by the US government. In my country a contractor would be thrown in jail if he built a house that was this flammable.

I guess I learn something new every day.
 
Just how in the hell do you know what or what not is sold at a Wal-mart in America?

Anyway, the fireworks laws are state laws and it's seriously f-cked up. I can make a run across the boarder into Wisconsin from Illinois and buy all sorts of whizz-bangs. Wisconsin residents cannot purchase the fireworks sold in their state - in fact, I have to present my Illinois DL to purchase the merchandise. Yet, the minute I cross the state line into Illinois I have illegal contraband in my trunk and can be arrested. How f-cked up is that?

I have enough stuff to blow up my neighborhood three times over, and that's just including the boom-booms left over from last year. Be very thankfull you live nowhere near me! :p
 
I find it rather odd that in a country where one can buy gunpowder at Wal-Mart certain types of fireworks are banned.

Just legalize all of it, anything else doesn't make sense.
 
yeah, they uped the standarRAB and cracked down on illegal fireworks. It really helped reduce the number of morons that caused fires from fireworks. They aren't that dangerous if you use them correctly. They are made for a purpose very well, but when you start firing mortars at oncoming cars or something you will get fires and injuries.
 
I am surprised people wanted M-80s and stuff like that legal. They accounted for most of the injuries due to fireworks and most of the fires.

Probably not a smart idea to have them.

Only about 5% of homes that are burned down by fireworks are burned by the opwner, it is usually either an irrosponsible neiborgh or some idiot kid.
 
I would say ban them in the cities, feel free to use them in the ocuntry. Cities just have too many houses too close together and a bunch of idiots with no common sense running around. Take a moron who put a shake shingle roof on his house despite the fact that it is roughly akin to pouring gasoline on your roof....add a moron who thinks that roman candles are really neat but failes to understnad the need to point them in a safe direction, and you have a bad situation.



Most places you are not allowed to shoot guns or detonate gunpowder in the city either.
 
People pay a lot of money to live in cookie cutter dumps. They generally look good, and can continue to look good if properly maintained, and that is all that seems to matter. The illusion of prosperity is important in the US.
 
Good point, although banning certain types of fireworks IMO doesn't really work when one can just make a big bomb himself with stuff that's readily available.
 
Oh, fireworks are not a big deal...M-80s are just insane. After M-80s were banned injuries went down like crazy.

Well I really don't know exactly what M-80s are, I kind of assumed they were a bigger, more explosive, type or firework. If that's true, people using them responsibly shouldn't hurt anyone. Asprin can kill as well, but when used responsibly, it doesn't. If I'm not mistaken the same is true for M-80s
 
The US has the highest level of real personal debt on the planet, primarily the result of a push to keep the illusion of properity up. We also have the highest level of public debt on the planet, mostly for the same reason.

Keeping up the illusion of prosperity is certainly not an American only deal, but we are unquestionably leading the pack
 
Banning bombs does not really work either, since those who really want bombs will almost certainly not be inclined to obey a ban.

Where fireworks become a problem is that they are primarily used by children, and children are not generally well known for their common sense.
 
Obviouosly those who want them legal don't live in California. It would be fine if the 4th were the 4th of Feb. not July.

The hills and open areas in the summer here are dry as tender. Any firework could start a fire.

I live in San Francisco. Chinese firecrackers are legal-ish. Chinese New Year is in the winter, though.
 
Eh, a bit off-topic, but what the hell are American homes made of, gasoline?
You could shoot rockets at my home all day and it wouldn't burn, so why are American homes so susceptible to fire?
