there isnt enough fires to put? out then shouldnt the government do something about it and lay half the buggers off and if they want they can go on a earn as you work scheme instead of the current earn while doing nothing scheme
hang on great scott, when was the last time you saw a fire? i see about 2 a year and i live near a city, they have had it too cushy for years
you should see me in my mankini julie
;-)
chandulal, i agree, is that then not a case to put them "on call" and we will pay them when we need them?
gordon, my point exactly!!!
barson, bernie rhodes knows

And if the Government were to take up your idea, many more people would die in fires because the already over-stretched service would be unable to cope. As Scott says, learn your subject before you start mouthing off.

Aww.. they look nice though in their uniforms and driving their engines.. dont be so mean.. there might be a fire at yours and then you`d be grateful.

No one can say when the fire or other mishap happens and when they have to attend to them. They are on duty 24 hours and are at call at a very short notice. So nothing can be done about this. They should be paid their full pay for the work whether they are doing car washing in their spare time or some thing else.

I agree with your way of thinking but what happens if there is a sudden emergency. Your house catches fire and you cant get out. Bad car accident with people trapped. Fireman doing nothing can now drop their window leathers or pool cue and be at the incident within minutes. I hate to think of the alternative.
