firearm protection while backpacking, hiking, in national parks.?

I want to start doing some backpacking, i love backpacker magazine and all sorts of stuff pertaining to the 0utdoors, I have a pack and a pretty good collection of gear, Now something that bothers me. BIG ANIMALS THAT CAN EAT ME. hihi. Seems national parks would require should require you to have a large caliber firearm with u at all times in a national park, to protect yourself from wild animals, but they dont allow them at all right? so i sure dont think ill b hiking in any national parks, ne comments? id like to hear from hikers that smartly arm themselves, better to have a firearm and not need it than to need it and not have it. i dont have one. but do plan to get one. bear spray ha come on dont make me laugh.
 
that's right, it's better to have it and not need it: rather than need it and not have it. i see to it that i bring a gun every time i go out in the wilderness...or outdoors as you call it. either i pack with my kimber ultra pro crimson II and and dumdum,fmj & high velocity ammo, same thing when i bring my dad's "old school-dirty harry" cal.44 magnum with p+p ammo. it's better that you smack 'em down before they have you for lunch.
 
in national parks, you're right. not allowed. but in national FOREST land, of which there is much more, it would be legal as long as your sidearm was legal.
l would think it would be much advised to be armed against bears and such. you wouldn't actually have to shoot them. just the loud report should suffice. if it doesn't, THEN shoot them.
for nastier TWO legged critters, go ahead and shoot them.
