Fire Lord Ozai... was he a satisfying villain for Aang's final battle?

But the perfectionist aspect is her entire character. Her first major appearance had her screaming at her mentors when a split of her hair escaped her flawless firebending. Even at that early stage, we could see a girl with no tolerance for what she considers define. While it is arguable that we didn't see an angry Azula over the loss of both "The Chase" and "The Drill", it can be explained away as just one of many plans she has made over time. If one fails, there is always another she can utilize.

What she did not suspect or had any backings were her friends' betrayal. Then things started to go bad for her...



It was a bit jarring, too. Then again, I kinda felt that way for most of Season Three's run. Indeed, I would have liked a bit more time as well, but repeated viewings and the hints spread throughout other portions of the episodes made it all work out, so I've accepted her massive throwdown by end.
 
I don't watch Avatar but it sounds like that Ozai's a bit like the Emporer, a scary supposebly powerful leader-type villain that turns out to be nothing like their hype, like many things in real life. I hope that Ozai had a decent defeat if he was defeated rather than being thrown into a pit in his own lair.
 
Yes, but Mike and Bryan's DVD commentary said that feeling sorry for her was the point here. Really, it's kind of hard not to. As Ed Liu said, you can still hate her, but that doesn't mean you can't pity her in the end as well (ala Gollum.)

Yeah besides, you can feel a little sorry for Azula, because the person besides herself that is probably most responsible for her insanity is Ozai.

Ozai is the only one that zero good qualties, even Sozin and Azulon has shown some human qualties besides being completely evil. Granted they are not good people, but shown other sides of them besides being ruthless evil people, that is all you saw from Ozai.
 
Oh, I'm not denying that she isn't a perfectionist, just that it's not such a sensitive subject for her that it's the basis for her going crazy since she's failed plenty of times throughout the show's run and wasn't concerned about it. I would agree it stems from her friends betraying her.. though it's just a shame it happaned at the end of the show rather than mid-season 2 so it cames off so sudden, that's all. Could have been handled much better.
 
As I stated, she had back-up plans lest Plan "A" failed. How could she be a devious leader if she didn't prepare for such? Though wily and able to counter nearly everyone's movement, it was her friends she didn't predict; stemming from an ego that they feared her too much to leave her, and a hidden cling that these two truly support and love her. It was a rare occasion where she get let her shield down in front of the two without them realizing until the last minute. Abrupt in the end? Yes, I agree, but in a long run, it was possibly intentional because it had befallen on Azula so quickly, so fast that she could not react with the appropriate behavior.

Honestly, if it happened during mid-Season Two, then we wouldn't have seen some of her most awesome during the Season Two Finale; it was required to show how one chick (and two partners) could conquer an entire kingdom by her lone self. I'd much prefer if they started a bit earlier in Season Three. Technically "The Beach" held some clues, but that episode felt as though it was throwing out every one of the characters' emotions in one burst for me to accept so easily.
