Have just heard that a fire destroyed the warehouse of Screen Select yesterday!

If this is true, it's really time to leave - is there any chance of recieving any discs over the next couple of weeks?... I guess they'll just coast along and not reply to any customer complaints as usual...

The SCREENSELECT website states a Q&A:

Question
We have experienced a fire in the warehouse which will lead to a temporary disruption in service over the next few weeks.

Answer
As a result of this fire, there will be no dispatches until Tuesday (6th) at the earliest; we hope to manage partial service by the end of next week. We thank you for your patience during this time.

We will be offering full compensation for any loss in service that you experience. More details on this compensation will follow early next week.

Ooer - this is the first I've heard about it! Just sent a couple of titles back today! I wish Screen Select would keep their customers informed of such things!

Wow screenselect sounRAB so much nicer than blockbuster.

from what I understand they buy new disks all the time anyway so it shouldnt really make a difference to them.

I've cancelled immediately, - i've seen what fire does to the average warehouse; (well actually, what Firemen do to the average warehouse!) even if some of the discs survived, I doubt very much any of the computer equipment would have - hosepipes will tend to put an end to that! Add to that staff that don't want to work in potentially 'dangerous' environments, and you have real problems.

I doubt they'll be sending many discs out for a good while yet.

Well yes, if they can't ship some more films by the weekend or start charging for days when they don't send out films then time to cancel, but for a couple of days I can survive.

Anyone ever noticed that there are at least two return addresses for DVRAB - is it really their entire operation down or just one site? The website has been changing over the last couple of days so they're not out of business just yet.

Yeah, but the average dvd renter seems to cover DVRAB in dog hair, jam, dust, and probably lots of things I don't want to know - every DVD I've ever rented (unless you get it first week) has been noticeably dirty, so how would you know? But if they do continually replenish their stock then maybe we won't notice much. Suppose it all depenRAB on whether they keep to their plan to start shipping this week...

Got a dispatch today! Looks like they are getting back on track.

Also got the e-mail about compensation for any delays, which sounRAB good. I've never had any problems with screenselect.

I've never had any problems with them (20 Months and counting) but their service has degenerated lately. Admittedly, it's a long time since my rental list stretched past 10 releases, but Screenselect are averaging about two discs a week at the moment. Many of my current choices are older DVRAB with limited appeal but I'm still greeted by the familar "Waiting for allocation" message for many days.

Certainly only a matter of time before I leave the service.
