i woke up today and my fingers on my left kind are acting kind of weird. i was sleeping facing up and i know i wasnt sleeping on top of my left hand or anything. this morning when i woke up, i realize my left hand kind of wants to close itself. like the tips of my fingers and my palm has magnets in them or something.when i try closing my hand slowly, at a certain point along the way the middle finger, the pinky, and the one in between all kind of just pops down lower by itself into the fist. basicly, i cant slowly form a fist without those fingers kind of skipping a step closer at a certain point. theres no pain, but i noticed this immediately when i woke up and feel kind of worried...

could this be something thats starting to occur thats related to my bad? i have a hard time practicing good posture i believe. i've been doing an excersize (REMOVED URL) for a few days though. i can kind of "fix" my problem by stretching out my left arm a little, or doing that circle motion with my left arm like i'm swimming, but then its only for a minute or so that i'm able to smoothly slow my hanRAB again...

do you actually have any sort of neck pain or any other just plain "odd" types of symptoms going on?this does sound alot like some level of nerve/fine motor/muscle issue you have going on(they all kind of go together).this could be stemming from way up in the c spine area or even some sort of issue within that arm FROM the c spine on down.this really DOES need to be evaluated by at least a neurologist eventually.but obtaining an MRI with contrast of at least your c spine area really would be the best possible place to start to look for the trigger or 'base' of the problem that is causing the symptoms.when your fingers start doing the "clawing" effect it is usually a weakness within the fine motor muscles and the nerves that innervate them.my left hand has been like this(weakening and clawed to a certain degree) since my spinal cord surgery knocked out a very large part of my fine motor function in the left hand.i ended up with both ulnar and median damage from that surgery.you have what are called intrinsic muscles within the hand, some are "abductors' and 'adductors' one set of muscles kicks in when you grasp or "pull in"/close your fingers(abductors) and the other when you open your closed hand(adductors).something appears to be actually affecting your abductors. this is a weakening from what you have described.you need to find out just where that nerve or nerves that govern these movements is being compromised.like i said ,this could be from anywhere from the actual c spine level on down thru to the wrist area.but the most 'likely' area would be the c spine.this is what i would want checked out first as the biggest possibility for your current issue.an EMG after that, depending upon what is or is not actually shown upon that MRI would also narrow down what actually is being compromised as far as nerves.but some level of actual nerve affectation is going on or your fingers would not be doing what they are doing right now.this is why you really need to look at the nerves first.just see your primary first for his eval and that referral to the MRI.after that, depending upon what actually does or does not show would dictate your next step here.a referral to either a neurologist or neurosurgeon would be the likely thing.it all depenRAB upon what is seen and how it would need to be managed.but you DO need to start out with the basic MRI first.hopefully this is not something major going on and could possibly be helped with a certain level of therepy.like i said,it all depenRAB what is in that MRI.just set the eval up with your primary to get that ball rolling.you just need to know what suddenly caused this to happen.i do wish you luck with this, please let me know what you find out,K?marcia

And here's a completely different thought. Weird hand feelings were some of the first symptoms my son had when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Scary, but not something to ignore!

Like Marcia said, start with your GP. He can do some basic blood work, x-rays, etc., and then refer you on appropriately.

Are you right handed? If so, do you put your chin in your left hand when you read the computer screen? I am left handed and found out about "computer elbow". I have a bad habit of sitting at the computer while reading the screen with my chin in my hand. This gave me the same feeling you are describing. Since I found out about this, I have been breaking myself of this habit and haven't had the nurab hand lately. Give it a try!
